The Huron County Engineer seeks comments on a Bridge Replacement Project on Greenwich Milan Townline Road (HUR TR 051 – 02.98) PID 121038
The Huron County Engineer’s Office will be replacing the bridge on Greenwich Milan Townline Road over the Southwest branch of the Vermilion River between US 224 and Boughtonville Road. The single span through truss bridge was built in 1962 and is in poor condition with weight restrictions. The proposed replacement will consist of a prestressed concrete box beam superstructure on capped pile concrete abutments.
The proposed project is located within a Special Flood Hazard Area of the Southwest Branch of the Vermilion River. Best management practices for sediment and erosion control will be used throughout construction to ensure that impacts to the floodplain are minimized. A No-Rise Certification will be made by a Registered Professional Engineer.
Construction is currently scheduled to begin in spring of 2028 at an estimated construction cost of $1,800,000 with work lasting approximately 90 days.
To assure the proposed project is viable and successful the County is seeking comments from the public about the social, environmental, and economic impacts of this proposed project. Environmental impacts include those associated with historical, archeological and ecological resources, hazardous materials and general concerns you may have with the project
Written comments concerning the proposed project may be mailed to Huron County Engineer’s Office, ATTN: Lee Tansey, 150 Jefferson Street, Norwalk, Ohio 44857.
You may also contact Lee by phone (419) 668-1997 or by email ltansey@huroncountyengineer.org. All comments must be received by May 8, 2026.
The environmental review, consultation, and other actions required by applicable Federal environmental laws for this project are being, or have been, carried-out by ODOT pursuant to 23 U.S.C. 327 and a Memorandum of Understanding dated
December 11, 2015, and executed by FHWA and ODOT.
The Ohio Revised Code requires that each Ohio County Engineer publish an annual report to the commissioners outlining the general condition of the roads and bridges in their county.

The Huron County Engineer’s office is responsible for snow and ice control on 225 miles of county roads. The County road system is broken into 8 plow routes with each route taking approximately 4 hours to complete. These routes combined can cost up to $6,000 for labor, equipment and material to clear snow and ice. The routes require our trucks to travel over 500 miles, use 150 gallons of fuel and spread 240,000lbs of a salt/grit mixture. We have 10 plow trucks at the ready and are staffed to be able to plow 24 hours a day 7 days a week! The map below shows the Huron County Engineer’s Office plow routes. All other roads not in color are the responsibility of other entities; Ohio Department of Transportation, Cities, Villages and Townships.
