DRAINAGE & DITCH LINE MAINTENANCE

The Pipeline Crew is responsible for protecting county roads from the effects of water. There are 3500 small culverts in the county that cross county roads, that are smaller than ten feet in width. Most assignments are for pipe, culvert and drain repairs. Pipes installed during housing construction can separate or cave in, needing replacement.

For ditch line maintenance, excess topsoil and foliage along the road shoulders is removed as required to improve road drainage. Frost heave and vegetation growing along the ditch line require the road surface to be graded periodically to an elevation that will allow storm water flow from the road edge to the side ditch.

Installation of Driveway pipeline

By Private Contractor

All contractors must first contact the Highway Department before starting any driveway pipeline installation. A permit must be obtained first.

Contractors should contact Highway Superintendent Bob Seidel or Assistant Highway Superintendent Mike Beveridge at 419-668-1997.

Application for the Contractor Permit is on the "permits" page on the menu in a MSWord downloadable format.

Installation by the Huron County Highway Department

The Department installs driveway drainage pipe and an application for a permit must be applied for and an estimate of the project cost completed before installation can be done.

See "Permits"for a downloadable driveway drain permits in MSWord.
